Ants 20’s lose out to Giffnock in Dev League

MISSED CHANCES PUNISHED AS ANTS 20S LOSE AT GIFFNOCK

The 20’s came into this one looking to build on a 3-3 draw with Rossvale the week previous but they faced a tough test against a Giffnock side who have been in good form so far this season. Giffnock took the lead in the 25th minute as Aaron Thornton opened the scoring for the hosts. Despite chances for both, the Ants best coming in 1st half injury time when James Hill’s effort rebounded off the inside of the post but bounced out and was cleared to safety and the half ended with Giffnock a goal up.

Giffnock doubled their lead in the 49th minute when Jamie Brinkworth netted his side’s second of the match. Dan Gallanagh has been in fine goalscoring form this season and he netted his 14th goal in 11 matches to bring us right back into the match after 54 minutes making it 2-1 to Giffnock.  The Young Team then had a great chance to equalise when they were awarded a pelanty for handball three minutes later but Kerr in the Giffnock goal guessed the correct way and denied James Hill a 3rd goal in 2 matches. To compound the agony of the spot kick miss Giffnock ran up the other end and Craig Morrison made it 3-1 on the hour mark.

Credit to the team though they kept fighting and once again reduced the deficit to a single goal when that man Gallanagh netted his second of the match and 15th of the season to make it 3-2. The Ants had a number of chances to equalise with a mixture of poor decisions, bad finishing, good goalkeeping and good defending stopping us from equalising and as is usually the case when chances are missed Giffnock took full advantage in the 92nd minute to seal the win when Brinkworth grabbed his second of the game and make the final score
