The Ants very slim chances of progressing to the next stage of the sectional league cup were buried by Port Glasgow, who are aptly nicknamed the Undertakers as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat despite having lead 1-0 at Half Time,
It was a much better showing from the Friday night-mare against Renfrew and it was the Ants who took the lead in the 9th minute. Crawford whipped in a free kick from the side of the penalty box and the Port keeper Tucker pushed the ball into the air, where Ants striker STEPHEN GRAY rose highest to nod the ball into the net for his first goal for the club.
Both teams had chances with Gallacher and McIlvaney having efforts from outside the box for the Ants and Patrick in the Ants goal making a great double save to deny the Port an equaliser before half time and Barry McLaughlin headed just over from a corner.
HALF TIME – ANTS 1 (GRAY 9) v 0 PORT GLASGOW
The second half was barely 5 minutes old when Jack McIlvaney gave away a cheap free kick on the edge of the box but there was nothing cheap about the resulting free kick as FRASER MCLAUGHLIN put the free kick into the top left hand corner of the net giving Patrick in the Ants goal absolutely no chance to level at 1-1. Port had the better of the second half and despite hints of offside grabbed the winner with 57 minutes on the clock when a neat 1-2 between KEVIN MCKAY and William Wells saw the former slot past Patrick into the net to make it 2-1 to the visitors. The Ants had a great shout for a penalty knocked back by the match referee when Leszczynski was pulled back in the box as he ran free of his marker but the man in the middle waved play on. With 3 minutes remaining the Ants were reduced to 10 men when sub McLean, who had only came on 7 minutes earlier, was shown a yellow then a red card having said something the ref took umbrage with and the Port ran out 2-1 winners
