Sinning Saints crash out of Scottish.
The Ants crashed out of this years ETHX Energy Scottish Junior Cup in the 3rd round following a 3-1 defeat against Stonehaven. Things started brightly for the Govan side when PAUL O’BRIEN headed them infront after 16 minutes only for RICHARD WYNESS to level for the home side after 36 minutes. The match was turned on it’s head in the 38th minute when Mansare was sent off for the Ants. A further blow was dealt when the Ants started the second haf without captain Ronnie McDonald who was replaced at half time through injury. Stonehaven made their man advantage count in the second half with another goal for WYNESS in the 52nd minute which was followed up by an Armstrong strike in the 62nd minute. Credit to the Ants who dominated for large parts of the match even with the numerical disadvantage, missing a few chances and having strong a strong penalty claim turned down in the 82nd minute. To rub salt into the wounds the Govan side finished with 9 men as Paul Gordon got his second yellow and dreams of the final turned to dust on a soaking wet day in the North of Scotland.
Last minute agony as Ants unbeaten record ended
The Ants unbeaten home record in the league was ended in the 91st minute when Craig McGregor climbed highest and headed home from a corner. The Ants had taken the lead after a great strike by Dean McKay but an equaliser from former Ants hero Jay McKay and that last minute equaliser saw last season’s division two champions get all three points.
Halloween howler for Ants as Maryhill take the points
This was by no means a classic. Maryhill took all three points after Justin Begg’s 18th minute strike but to be brutally honest it was a poor match devoid of much in the way of chances. Maryhill bossed the first half and Ants keeper Jack Baker helped keep the score down but the second half will not live long in the memory for anyone attending
Deadly Duncan Hat-trick fells Forres
A Wullie Duncan hat-trick alongside a double for young Ryan Smith and an own goal saw the Ants record their highest Scottish Junior Cup win for 36 years as they beat Forres 6-0 at McKenna Park.
Ants come back from 2 down for spirited draw
The Ants scored two goals in the last ten minutes to claw back a two goal deficit v Thorniewood at McKenna Park and were unlucky not to steal all 3 points with the last kick of the ball.
